Please continue to keep Fr. Peter and his family in your prayers as they grieve the loss of his grandmother, Mrs. Antonia Markosek. Also, keep Fr. Mark in your prayers. He’ll leave Rock Island this Wednesday for Chicago, fly to Omaha to preach for the Zambian missions, return to Chicago and then fly to Zambia where he will spend the summer until he returns in August for his final two years of study at St. Ambrose University.
For the last couple weeks we’ve run the biographies of the Parish Council candidates. Next week the election will be held. Please prayerfully consider the candidates for whom you wish to vote. Absentee ballots will be available for those who will not be able to vote at church next weekend. I personally thank all those who have agreed to stand for election. Their willingness to serve our parish is an example for all of us to follow.
May and June are months for weddings and weddings anniversaries. One particular anniversary is that of Bob and Mary Jo Pulford. They will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, May 21st. On September 26, 2010, Bishop Jenky will honor couples married for 25 and 50 years at the annual Diocesan Anniversary Mass and Celebration at the Cathedral in Peoria. If you are celebrating your 25th or 50th wedding anniversary this year, please call Katherine in the parish office so that you may receive a personal invitation to this special event.
Please join me next weekend in welcoming Father C. Gregory Jones, CSV, a member of the same religious community as Fr. Dan Mirabelli. Fr. Jones will speak at all Masses about a ministry that provides direct relief to the poor throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Fr. Jones will share what he has witnessed about Food for the Poor’s mission to care for the destitute as a means of living out the Gospel mandate to love one another. Fr. Jones was ordained for the Clerics of St. Viator in 1996. Before preaching for Food for the Poor, Fr. Jones has served as a Pastoral Associate, a Scripture Instructor at St. Viator High School, and the Director of Campus Ministry at Ohio Dominican University.
