It’s the Fourth of July, Independence Day, a good time to Google “Declaration of Independence” and to remind ourselves of how the founding fathers envisioned our freedom.  It’s also a good time to reflect on the Proclamation of Faith after the consecration of the Mass which states, “Lord, by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.  You are the Savior of the world.”
The Lord has freed us from sin, so let’s be serious about being sin-free.  The Lord has freed us to serve one another, so let us be serious in our marriages, families, schools and parish about being servant-free.
The joy of this freedom has been captured for us in the words of the old spiritual hymn, “Free at last, free at last!  Great God Almighty, I’m free at last!”
Let’s all recommit ourselves to live in the fullness of the freedom Christ has won for us.  Have a happy Fourth of July.
