Holy Orders

A calling by God is such a gift and a joy. Jesus tells us, "the harvest is great, but laborers are few, so beg the harvest master to bring more laborers to his harvest." ARE YOU being called to a vocation of service of God and his holy people. Here are some simple steps to follow to find out if you are...

  1. Pray every day. Have a solid prayer life where you can talk to God and listen for his call.
  2. "Lord, help me to be, what you want me to be."
  3. Go to Mass regularly, including daily Mass, so that you can experience the greatest sacrifice that priests are privileged to share.
  4. Go to Confession regularly, so that your soul can be a place where Christ resides and directs you to respond to his invitation.
  5. Pray to find a worthy spiritual director who can answer your questions so as to help you discern God's call.
  6. Talk to your parish priest or Vocation Director to get further assistance.

Office of Priestly Vocations for the Diocese of Peoria

"You will gather others into the people of God through Baptism, and you will forgive sins in the name of Christ and the Church in the sacrament of Penance.  Today I ask you in the name of Christ and the Church, never tire of being merciful.  You will comfort the sick and the elderly with holy oil: do not hesitate to show tenderness towards the elderly. When you celebrate the sacred rites, when you offer prayers of praise and thanks to God throughout the hours of the day, not only for the people of God but for the world — remember then that you are taken from among men and appointed on their behalf for those things that pertain to God. Therefore, carry out the ministry of Christ the Priest with constant joy and genuine love, attending not to your own concerns but to those of Jesus Christ."  Pope Francis
